Checking my options, I've picked a motherboard for this project. I'm planning to install a 4090fe in the top slot and either another 4090fe or an EVG FTW3 3090ti Ultra in the lower non-metal PCIe lane. My main concern is whether the GPU will fit given all the cables running along the bottom of the board.

Usually you'd prefer not to use that bottom port for GPUs if you can, since it connects via an X4 link through the chipset. You might consider a 3-slot card or water-cooled options. Still, you can usually adjust the connectors to fit it in the lower slot.

This approach isn't ideal. 3D visualization depends heavily on PCIe speed, so each card needs maximum bandwidth. The issue is only two PCIe ports are available for the CPU, both connected to metal slots for x8/x8, which restricts the 3090 to just four lanes from the chipset, significantly hurting its performance. You probably won't mind the lower-level wiring at the bottom, but the main concern is how it affects speed. If you need extra space for the 4090, choose a board with four PCIe slots and full x8/x8 support. For LGA 1700, common options include Z690 Aero D, Z690 Aorus Xtreme, Z690/Z790 Classified, Z690/Z790 Tachyon, Z690/Z790 Dark KP, Z690/Z790 Maximus Extreme, and Z690/Z790 Apex.

I'm facing some limitations since I'm currently working with a PC building company. They handle these machines professionally, so I don't want to take on the task myself! The motherboard I saw seems to have four slot spacings—does that make it a better choice? EDIT: It looks like the manual mentions the lower two slots are for the chipset, which limits my options. GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER

That board doesn't include x8/x8 features. It has a 4 slot spacing, but Gigabyte hasn't released any Z790 models with that support. The Z790 Hero from your earlier mention remains the stronger choice since it retains the capability.

I might need to go with my initial option. I’ll reach out to check if they can place an order for any of the motherboards you listed. Thank you!
