Discussing bandwidth on a single connection using both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands
I'm having trouble with my internet connection speed because I'm not very familiar with it. I have a 125 Mbps broadband line connected to a D-Link router (DIR-841). My laptop, an Aspire E 14/E5-475G, works well over LAN but only gets 85-95 Mbps. When using the 2.5 GHz band it reaches 124-130 Mbps, and on the 5 GHz band it's 124-130 Mbps as well. I'm trying to achieve around 120-125 Mbps on the 2.5 GHz band, but it's limited by distance. The ISP staff I spoke with didn't seem to understand the problem and just assured me everything is fine. I've attached some screenshots for your reference. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks.
Consider alternative LAN connections. On budget devices, certain ports might only support 100M bandwidth.
Since lower frequency bands perform slower, the images show your 2.4 Ghz connection operating at 150 Mbps. The reality is you won’t achieve the maximum speeds because of how WiFi works. Factors like interference reduce performance. On WiFi, a common guideline is to expect about two-thirds of the advertised speed in good conditions. That means roughly 100 Mbps for 2/3 of 150. From the pictures, it seems you’re using a WiFi 4 router or gateway. The best fix would be upgrading to a WiFi 5 or 6 device. This also implies all connected devices should support the newer standards for better results. You might also need to position yourself closer to the router to connect to 5 Ghz for higher speeds.
