Hello, according to the instructions, I have some concerns about my motherboard (MSI B550 Gaming Carbon Wi-Fi with Ryzen 5600x). I’m unsure how the M.2 slots function and whether I can fully understand them just by reading the manual. Currently, I’m using one M.2 slot with an NVMe drive and a WD SN500. I plan to add another SSD to replace my old 240GB SATA drive. I’d prefer a second NVMe drive in a different M.2 slot, but I’m not sure about the implications. Could having two M.2 drives at the same time slow down the drives or even affect the GPU? I’ve noticed some older motherboards capping speeds on one drive when using another SSD or the GPU. If this causes problems, I might switch to a SATA SSD instead. I’d appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thank you in advance.
It won’t influence any performance. The initial PCIe port links straight to the CPU, ensuring no slowdown. The second M.2 port connects either directly or via the chipset, but this detail isn’t crucial. Adding an M.2 SSD in the second slot will turn off the PCIe E2 and E3 ports, as noted on page 18 of your motherboard manual.
Absolutely understood. No issue with the other PCI-E ports being turned off. Appreciate your help—I'm choosing another M.2 SSD now.
