Hi, I have a query for those familiar with RAM upgrades. I currently own two 8GB kits of the Hyperx Fury CL17 3600MHz. The models I’m using are HX436C17FB3AK1/16 for the first stick and HX436C17FB3AK2/16 for the second. I’m planning to upgrade to 32GB and use four 8GB sticks. I can’t locate the same set but I found two packs of 8GB each, all matching the Hyperx Fury CL17 3600MHz specs. They list identical timing parameters, default and XMP profiles. They’re essentially the same, but the RAM I have now was in a kit and these are standalone units. Can I combine two of those 8GB sticks with my current kit to reach four 8GB modules? My motherboard is an MSI B450 MORTAR MAX, and next I’ll install a new CPU – a Ryzen 5 5600 non-X variant. My GPU is an RTX 6700X. Will the memory upgrade work and what are the chances it will run smoothly at 3600MHz? I’m currently running my two 8GB kits on the CL17-21-21 at that speed using the XMP profile. Thanks and sorry if my English isn’t clear.

It should work fine. The XMP profile could fail if timing differences vary between kits, but you can manually adjust the speed and main timings, allowing the motherboard to handle the timing itself.

I concur @Zando_ it should be okay. I also ran a similar adjustment with my system when upgrading to 32 gigs—it caused occasional BSODs, so I focused on the new RAM sticks. Lowering the XMP profile from 3600 to 3400 resolved the issue nicely. Just a reminder to keep that in mind.

So it should function, but chances are I’ll have to give up on 3600mhz speed and hope for a 3400mhz result. If it drops below that, I’m not sure it’s worth it since I don’t need such a high spec. The main issue is stuttering in AAA titles. My GPU usage tends to be low, and I often see FPS drops, which I really dislike. I had a Ryzen 5 3600 and might have struggled with it compared to the 6700X, so I’m planning to upgrade to something around 5600. I’m hoping things will improve. After the CPU, I’d like to boost RAM for a smoother gaming experience—though honestly, 4 sticks sounds better than 2666mhz. I’m not sure if I should trade speed for more RAM, or maybe aim for something below 3000mhz to keep the system stable. I’ll consider this later. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't consider a high probability. However, I wanted to let you know if you experience frequent BSODs. It hasn't happened during gaming sessions, but sometimes it occurs when I power off my computer.
