I have an older Alienware X51 R2 setup, likely equipped with an i7-3770 processor, 16GB DDR3 RAM (2x8), a GTX 1060 graphics card, a 512GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD, and the standard components of the PC. I was thinking about upgrading the motherboard to make future modifications easier, but I ran into the challenge of needing a new case, RAM, a new motherboard, and probably a replacement CPU. I’m still unsure if a new power supply would be necessary or if there are other considerations.
At Micro Center I found a Ryzen 7 2600X with a Wraith Prism cooler for $129.99, a Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2x8GB DDR4-3200 for $59.99, an ASRock B450 PRO4 AM4 ATX motherboard for $52.96 after rebate, and a Thermaltake case with a tempered glass front for $34.99 after rebate. Adding everything together gave me around $277.93 before tax. Since I’m on a budget, I’m looking for advice on whether these upgrades are worth it or if there’s a better path forward.
rebates aren't guaranteed. Some people realized that only about 20% of rebates are actually gathered. Many overlook details or don't complete them properly. When filled correctly, they might take a year to process. If not done right, they're usually discarded.
