Strix Z690 D4 12900k features 1-3080ti with 16GB DDR4, 4500 cores disabled for extra optimization. Cache and memory speeds are 4500/5100/4600 MHz. System runs on 7C14T (excluding P-core5). All cores run at 5300MHz, cache at 5100MHz, memory at 4600MHz. Auto-populated subs detected. Performance appears stronger than 9th gen CPUs. Missed 10th and 11th generation chips. More transparency from Intel about E-core disabled would help. This could make Raptor Lake less appealing, but I’ll likely wait for post-SapphireRapids updates. ~Xeon~
It's frustrating to find a faulty core in an otherwise solid CPU. It really turns the X5660 into a waste of power, especially since Core 3 is underperforming and needs about 6% more voltage than the others. Even with just 4.85g on two cores at 1.7v, it struggles to reach 5g on a 990X at full load. The situation gets worse with a 12-year-old chipset—unless you have a powerful cooling solution or a phase-change cooler, this unit is essentially useless beyond basic performance. Compared to older models like the E8600 or 2600K, which could hit 5g easily, this setup falls short. The timings are also subpar if it's a binned Samsung B Die; you should check the burner for details on voltage limits. It’s likely one of the voltage-capable ICs, allowing higher voltages without harming RAM or GPU. If your chips are Micron-rev (or ballistic), this could help. For more guidance, look into BuildZoid and official DDR4 OC documentation. Keep in mind, pushing above 1.7v risks thermal issues and possible instability, though a 1.6-1.75v range is usually safe. Just be cautious—exceeding that may reduce performance or cause failure over time.
I just adjusted the chip memory voltage to 1.4V because the cache and other voltages worked fine. I didn’t think it needed extra boost—Z390 was already mainstream for high-frequency DDR4. My setup avoids window AC units, so fans are pre-gammed. Canadian climate metrics might handle higher temps better, that’s what I heard.
