They seem to copy PVP ideas from MMOs but then fix or abandon them, creating imbalanced systems. It's frustrating when they switch tactics mid-game, like using a 2-player setup for practice while expecting 8v8, and only offering a 4v4 queue. Why such inconsistency?
It's one of the top PvP MMORPGs available for more than a decade. http://darkageofcamelot.com/ There are no instance-based PvP scenarios where rewards are given regardless of outcome; success depends on defending what you've earned. You're immersed in an open world divided into three distinct areas—Albion (featuring knights and wizards), Hibernia (inspired by Celtic myths), and Midgard (based on Norse lore). After King Arthur's passing, these realms are locked in conflict. A PvE zone exists without any PvP, allowing you to level up and prepare, followed by a frontier where the three realms battle. Extra challenge comes from facing two opposing realms, regardless of strength; they’ll unite temporarily to overcome any threat. As you progress through levels, special PvP areas appear. There’s no instance replication in these battles—defending your gains is essential. The original aim was to collect relics that enhance spells or abilities (three for mele, three for casts). Each realm contains seven keeps with 3–4 towers, which players must capture using weapons like rams, palintones, or catapults. Defenders inside can also place palintones or boiling oil at entry points. Every realm offers unique classes and equipment, so tanking and casting styles vary widely. You’re free to play solo, in groups of up to 200, or as battle teams. The most intense matches I’ve seen involved around 900 participants vying for a single keep. The game supports a monthly fee.
This clip is from gameplay footage featuring fewer enemies. It's a production by the creators. The visuals in the game look superior compared to this video, though the overall quality seems somewhat worn down.
PvP isn't a priority for YoshiP, and I don't think it should be part of FFXIV. It seems like it was included just as an extra feature for players.
