Discuss Sekiro in depth.
I've spent nearly 1000 hours on DS1/2/3 and Elden Ring. After seeing "Sekiro: Shadows die twice" on sale, I decided to buy it because many say it's the top Souls-like. With my experience in these games, I knew what to expect regarding difficulty and learning curve. Each title took a few hours before I fully grasped the mechanics. Eventually, I felt confident enough to tackle tough enemies, though they still feel challenging. Every boss fight usually requires dozens of attempts, making it hard to know when I'm on the right track. Personally, Sekiro seems to have a very high starting difficulty, even for Souls games. How did you feel about that? How long did it take you to become comfortable with the enemies?
It's widely regarded as the toughest and most challenging of all soul games. The truth is, it's extremely demanding and designed to test you.
Played DS1 and DS2 but never completed them—usually lacked time, or updates would crash my system (not on a Mac) and I didn’t prioritize fixing them. Other titles grabbed my attention, like a game that kept me engaged until the end. Sekiro stood out as the only Souls-like that held my interest. I appreciated its quicker parry/dodge/stamina systems and the focus on skill over stats. During the pandemic, I had more free time to explore games, which likely played a role. Elden Ring just came in last week and hasn’t been tried yet for comparison.
I was told searching for the game is included in the game itself.
I usually enjoy playing Souls games by trying them without looking up anything first, then revisiting them later using Google.
Sekiro demands a tough learning curve and is often regarded as the most challenging title. People appreciate its difficulty in speedrunning, especially once you master the mechanics. After completing most of the game, I found it smoother, though getting comfortable took around 10 to 20 hours. Input lag affects performance noticeably; my older Samsung TV struggled more than my Asus monitor, even in game mode. The parry window is crucial—keeping your hands moving or holding a block changes its timing. On a quick search, it’s about 0.5 seconds at normal speed, but can drop to just 7 frames if you spam. A solid parry restores the window, so rapid attacks don’t count as spam.
I quit after about ten hours because mastering stealth and timing parries really matters. Without them, the game quickly becomes frustrating. I tried again later, focused on perfecting those moves, and it was more enjoyable—though the final boss remains challenging. It’s important to practice deflections early on rather than relying too much on stealth.
