Hi, I've been using Pf-sense for some time now. Recently I added two internet connections and wanted to balance them in a particular way. I have one Fiber connection and another Cable connection. The Cable is much faster but has higher latency, while the Fiber is slower but lower latency. I'm curious if it's possible to load balance by using only the Fiber connection until a certain bandwidth threshold is reached, then switch to the Cable connection. I'm not sure if this is feasible, but I believe Pf-sense can handle such configurations. Thanks in advance for your help!

Achieving balance without limits or smart triggers is quite challenging. While SD-WAN options exist using QoS, they aren’t simple. Wouldn’t it be easier to route all traffic over a low-latency path?

PfSense can't apply load balancing using bandwidth data right now. It does have latency-based triggers for switching gateways, though results may differ from expectations. I handle similar setups but focus on gaming latency versus downloads, using port patterns instead of real-time metrics. I’d be happy to assist if you provide details like line speeds, download activity, and your network goals. Could you share the bandwidth per connection and what you’re trying to protect? Also, do you have any internal queues for limiting traffic?
