I recently discovered a Cisco e1000 V2 model and decided to upgrade it into a switch using DD-WRT. After verifying it supports this firmware (dd-wrt.v24-44715), I downloaded the "factory flash" package and performed the installation. I followed the advanced setup instructions, but adjusting the local IP, gateway, DNS settings, disabling DNSMasq, assigning the WAN port to a switch, or turning off DHCP seemed to break the connection. Currently, I’m still connected via Wi-Fi and have the device plugged directly into my PC for configuration. It appears I’m making a mistake somewhere. Based on what I learned in my IT course, altering DHCP-related parameters prevents the router from assigning IP addresses, which stops me from connecting or configuring it properly. I’m fairly comfortable with computers and can share more details if needed to help identify the problem. UPDATE: After restarting after a configuration change for about ten minutes, it seems the connection was restored and the changes took effect—does this timing usually happen? UPDATE 2: After completing all basic setup steps and waiting, the device still refused to connect despite the adjustments. I unplugged and replugged it, which reset the settings and allowed me to reconnect successfully.

After turning off DHCP, your laptop's Ethernet won't receive an IP address automatically. You must set it up manually and ensure it matches the static IP you configured on the switch. Also, make sure it stays within the same network range as the Wi-Fi settings you disabled on the laptop.

I'll attempt it again, and I'm using a desktop with a wireless adapter. However, I'm not entirely confident it's the problem since resetting the router after turning it off restores my previous settings. I'll keep trying, it seems logical.

I tried setting a static IP and adjusting all configurations again, but it’s not working. The router shows the SSID is active, yet connecting my phone still fails—old gateway settings remain while the phone can’t reach either the old or new one. I’m confused about what’s going wrong.
