brown slot refers to the CPU socket. earlier models used their own printed circuit boards, such as Intel CPUs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slot_1). later I upgraded to Socket A AMD, which was comparable, and that CPU ran at 1000MHz Athlon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slot_A)
It's great that you're interested in exploring old technology, but I understand it might be a time-consuming process.
Those were simpler times. I was enjoying games such as Asheron's Call, Heavy Gear, and descent freespace.
