You need to set up a private server or use a VPN so your friend can join from their regular network.

No, I haven't checked that. Could you confirm if you've already set up the port forwarding on your router?

It's tough to determine the best approach. You mentioned a Fritz!Box 7530, which seems to be a German/Austrian/Swiss model. Try searching for your router model and include port forwarding in the search. The port number you need is 25565.

The concept involves redirecting traffic through your ISP router's NAT. Since your local machine is behind a WAN IP like 90.90.90.90, you must inform the router to forward incoming connections from that IP to a specific local address such as 192.168.1.25:25565. You'll need a fixed local IP for your computer and set up routing rules in the router to handle port forwarding or NAT traffic accordingly.

I attempted it but encountered the issue when trying to connect from a different network. The error message reads: "io.netty.channel.AbstractChannell$AnnotatedConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information."

In the server.properties file, the IP parameter should reflect the local IP address of the server, not the WAN IP.

Yes, you're right. In the IP there is the server's local IP address.

Have you successfully linked to your Minecraft server from a distance? Are you running JDK 1.8 (Java 8)?
