No, Elite wouldn't be the best choice. Would you like me to suggest something else?

It would definitely be mine today. SC is going to be a solid match, though it has a lot of room for improvement.

It will at least keep you motivated until Star Citizen launches. If EBig Grin continues adding features, it might have everything Star Citizen will offer by then.

The only truly contemporary title in this category is Elite: Dangerous. I wouldn't suggest betting on Star Citizen until a more polished version is available. Star Citizen could become a strong option eventually, but we can't predict that yet. Since it's a project funded by the community—even if it succeeds—it remains uncertain whether it will be completed.

kinda, there's the Debug Camera, but you cannot control the ship while you are in it (to prevent a situational awareness advantage, seeing around things), It's really intended for pretty screenshots

I love Elite Dangerous. Spent over 100 hours playing since January. Strongly suggest it. It feels more like a sandbox—you start with a ship and are just beginning. No major campaign, just exploration and building your own path.
