Discord and game lag
Discord and game lag
This problem has been occurring for roughly a week now; everything was normal before. I tried playing COD with friends via Discord, but their audio and voice chat were very slow and lagged badly. Restarting the router or PC helped temporarily, though it returned later. I don’t have any issues with YouTube or other activities. My speed test results show: Update – I received an Ethernet cable and the issue still exists. It mainly happens at night. It works during the day. COD runs smoothly without lag. Discord, however, is problematic. Sometimes ping jumps from 24 to 5000, and voices become delayed. Even when speaking clearly, there’s occasional lag that fades but eventually stops, making it hard to hear. Any advice would be appreciated.
Your setup is now connected via Ethernet, eliminating wireless concerns. Have environmental changes occurred, like other family members watching Netflix simultaneously? If they're streaming in 4K, it might indicate your connection is nearing capacity. Are any other devices being updated, such as Xboxes or gaming consoles?
Did you eliminate any ongoing tasks from your computer’s activity list? Checking the Task Managers Performance section might reveal a hardware issue. If not, the problem could stem from your ISP’s capacity in your area. Was your speed test conducted during the time the issue happened?
Does it occur across every Discord server? It might simply stem from an issue with the regional connection the server relies on.
Attempted to enjoy a game of Dead by Daylight but the lag rendered it impossible to play. No specific tasks were running at that moment. The speed test was conducted while the problem occurred.
When the problem arose you restarted both the computer and the router, which helped temporarily. Could you test the router alone? If that resolves it, it might indicate the ISP replaced it—especially if it's several years old. If rebooting the router doesn't fix things, we'll move to the PC and check Task Manager for high RAM usage (above 80-90%) where it begins caching data on the disk.
Rebooting the router alone doesn't fix the issue. And there is no software on my pc that severely impacts RAM usage. Everything is normal.
Based on the date, it might be linked to the most recent Windows Update. Your PC could be updating automatically when it shouldn't have, possibly because you missed Microsoft's patch on Tuesday. This is just a hypothesis without proof, but here are some steps:
1. Update your network drivers to the newest versions from Intel or Realtek.
2. If that doesn’t fix it, try disabling the latest Windows update and wait 7 days before reinstalling updates.
All network drivers are currently at the latest version. I disabled the newest update, set a 7-day pause, but the problem persists ;( Is it possible the issue lies with my ISP’s side beyond my control? This started recently and also affects Discord on my phone.
