It seems your PC struggled to safely remove the external hard drives, while others worked fine. You've already tried formatting and ejecting them, but it didn't work consistently—sometimes you need to wait about 10 minutes before rebooting. This could be due to driver issues, file system errors, or hardware compatibility problems. Checking the drive's status with tools like Disk Management or Event Viewer might help identify the cause.

Usually the USB drive comes out safely, but sometimes it takes a while—like waiting about ten minutes before it actually ejects. This time I was the first to encounter this issue. When I clicked "eject..." from the tray, I just had to wait and then try removing it, which caused some problems.

It doesn't make sense to try to "remove safely"... I haven't done that recently, and there were no issues at all.

Unless you're using software from a drive, have file transfer active or some files open on the drive, disconnect it. For HDDs, I'd stick to safe removal. With flash drives, simply unplug them.
