Disabling screen displays causes game failures
I just decided to dive back into Ark after several updates and started my server on my old Xbox, connecting from my PC. After roughly five minutes, the screen goes blank, the game crashes, and I can't do anything except hear background audio from YouTube videos. I made sure my drivers were current and even reinstalled the game today, but it still doesn’t work. It only happens with Ark, not with any other games I’ve tried. I’m using the Microsoft version. My important specs are: CPU 3700X, PSU Corsair 650W, GPU 2080 Ti, motherboard Asus B450F, 32GB RAM at 3200MHz, and Corsair Ballistics.
Couple things, have seen it before in a few ways... I've had Ark do that exact thing to me twice over the years. These are what I found can cause it... 1. Current Ark update is having issues with Direct3D (I think that's it) and crashing. 2. One of your mods isn't playing well with the new update 3. Ark has an ability to stress a GPU. Ark was the only game doing what you describe on my 1080Ti, and I had to RMA it. Voltage module was out of spec per Gigabyte, causing PSU protections trip. Ark is notoriously SHITASTIC in its coding, so you can never rule out the game itself. I'd hate to have you RMA your 2080Ti without being for certain it is an issue though. I don't have an answer, just experience in dealing with it. The first is out of your hands, and the second is a pain in the ass for a few weeks at best.
I also got a 6412 in Time Spy, which is roughly half of what I normally score. Something seems off. I've been away from the area for three weeks, left my PC unplugged, and no one has touched it—previously it was fine before I left... not sure what to think.
Review a few additional games to assess performance. Although unusual, I excluded electronics. It might be time for an RMA.
I’d address the usual concerns about drivers and DDU, etc. Unless it’s a complete fresh installation, drivers, etc. You might need to check an RMA if the product is under warranty.
