Disabling cores and/or hyper-threading affects S3 because it relies on those features for performance. Your motherboard warns that S3 will be turned off if you disable them, which is why your system behaves differently depending on the settings. With your specific hardware—Asrock B450M Pro4 and Ryzen 7 2700—it’s likely the game or system requires a certain level of processing power to run smoothly. If you want to sleep but still play, you may need to adjust settings or consider alternative options.

Turn it off completely and observe the outcome. Or try a lower configuration like 3 cores with 6 threads. That unusual issue seems to be a glitch in the game.

The process worked as expected. Disabling two cores removed the S3 power state capability, but it allowed playing Lost Planet 2 again. If you have any questions about this behavior, feel free to ask.

This might stem from a design flaw during development. There could also be real-world constraints or physical limits affecting the outcome.

I don't know of any AMD AM4 boards that allow core disablement without affecting S3 sleep.

It has to do with the precision timing used for SMT and the design of the CPU. There is no way around it as of Zen 4
