Hello everyone,
Recently I had an unusual issue that took a while to resolve. About a year ago, my system would suddenly stop working without warning, regardless of the operating system I was using—whether it was Windows 11, Linux, or even during a fresh installation. It only occurred when the system was idle. I checked CPU, RAM, and hard drives, but found nothing out of the ordinary. I ran various OCCT tests as well, yet nothing changed.

After some research while the system was idling, I discovered something about C-States. Disabling them resolved the problem completely.

Now, a year later, I updated my BIOS and reset all settings. I tried again with the default configuration (C-States enabled). The computer failed to load the motherboard logo during OS installation, preventing booting into any operating system or recovery mode.

Once I turned off C-States, everything worked normally again.

Could someone with more experience confirm if this is due to a faulty CPU or incorrect settings?
I’m using:
Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Godlike
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

It might be due to an inefficient low voltage power delivery that you're ignoring by enabling constant current flow with c states turned off. It could also stem from a faulty PSU, or issues with your motherboard's MOSFETs or VRMs. Hard to identify the exact source. Which one is it?

It is an EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2, 80+ GOLD 850W.
Bought it new. Granted, its pretty old, but still in warrenty.

It depends on the age, but they're still quite durable. When it's time to reapply thermal paste, inspect the socket and CPU mounting with the cooler because all power delivery comes from those MMO pins. A tiny bit of dirt, a bent pin, or something similar could cause issues.

I believe there might be an issue, though it could be challenging to pinpoint exactly. If I'm uncertain, the motherboard seems like a likely candidate, but that's only a speculation.
