We need to find a method to disable all updates on Windows 10. This would prevent Windows from checking for them, downloading, and installing them. My experience was that most forums gave no helpful suggestions—just generic advice about regular updates. I understand it's often said updates can't be turned off on Windows 10, but is there a real way? I’m certain this isn’t possible, yet someone suggested otherwise. I also know keeping my PC vulnerable without security patches is risky. I don’t want any future updates at all, not even minor ones or major ones. Not even those that could cause problems. For my sister’s laptop, which is mostly offline except for occasional movie streaming, I’d prefer to avoid any data costs from roaming cellular networks. That would be a waste of money. There seems to be an option in Windows to skip updates over cellular connections, but it doesn’t seem to recognize when the device uses Wi-Fi hotspot via cellular data. My sister is young and probably not tech-savvy enough to adjust settings herself. I’d like someone to guide me through setting this up permanently so the laptop ignores updates forever. Thanks for your help.

Consider testing Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC. Microsoft states it will not provide any feature updates.

I get what you're going through. Many clients face this issue too—especially those relying on metered connections. Try launching the Run dialog (Win + R), typing services.msc, and pressing Enter. From the Services window, locate Windows Update, then adjust its startup type to Disabled before restarting. Have you attempted these steps yet?

A simple way is to set up Windows 10 Enterprise, though it can be costly. Besides that, there are some instructions on preventing automatic updates, but they might not function with the version your sister uses. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-...windows-10

Updates can't be turned off completely. Disabling them won't keep them disabled forever; they'll automatically reactivate after a period. You can prevent updates from going through a cellular connection by designating that connection as such. https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/set-u...windows-10

Hey everyone, you're really quick! I had to wait days on other sites. I'm thinking about trying the enterprise LTSB, but I'd rather tweak my current setup. Turning off updates won't help with security patches, and any updates might reset my settings, causing extra downloads. Last time I tried disabling updates in services, Windows complained about not updating for a while.

Sounds better yet, but not quite perfect. That’s the top choice so far. If you want, I can explore how to transfer drivers from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1. Just let me know!

Windows 10 LTSB / LTSC stands out as the top choice for Windows 10. You can purchase licenses at affordable prices on eBay. Yet, even the Windows 10 LTSC 1809 is currently facing problems due to Microsoft's subpar 1809 release, and it will need further patches before functioning properly. When it comes to Windows Update, there are several options to turn it off in Windows 10. Using Windows 10 without Windows Update might be safer given the frequent issues major updates cause. I would have avoided having to reinstall everything on my PC multiple times if I had never allowed Windows Update to run in Windows 10.
