Is there anyone familiar with a straightforward method to halt Windows 11 from downloading driver updates during a new installation and then prevent them from happening again? You mentioned trouble with the AMD Radeon 22.11.2 driver, needing to revert to an earlier version while avoiding further updates. Additionally, you face setup problems during fresh installs where device drivers are installed automatically.

yeah there can be a lot of nonsense there. not much you can do manually on the top, but one can install modded windows (at own risk) or using the console to block/disable? Don't think you can do anything simple to stop it, unless no online connection helps? but agree, hate this too, more so when there is no option and installs wrong driver when just trying to look for windows updates. Here are some ways to manage automatic driver updates in Windows 11:

- Turn off Automatic Driver Updates using the Registry: This involves specific steps to disable updates through system settings.
- Use Group Policy Editor: Access it via Run > gpedit.msc and adjust policies related to driver management.
- Modify registry values carefully: Changing certain keys can prevent updates, but requires caution and a backup.

Before making any changes, consider creating a restore point for safety. Adjusting these settings will stop new updates automatically while still allowing you to receive important patches from Microsoft.

But isn't the issue here that Windows sets up unwanted drivers, like AMD GPU drivers, during installation? You can't change those settings while installing... Still, if it's just the GPU drivers (the rest seem fine), DDU might help once the install is complete. (Just a note for you, how these steps could assist) And yes, I understand you can tweak the installer, but that’s more complicated and I’m not sure it’s wise for beginners either.

For a new setup, you can complete it without an internet connection initially. After finishing, only essential drivers will be added. Then open Settings, adjust the required changes, proceed with Windows Update, select any drivers you wish to update, and continue. Microsoft confirms you must connect for a fresh install, but I’m not able to access that due to forum rules. The process is straightforward and detailed instructions are available online.
