Since the latest Windows 10 release two days ago (Fall Creators Update), there are no more ways to turn off Game mode. Also, the menu to open Game mode (Win + G) isn't working for me. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to disable it or if it's still causing problems similar to before the update.

It seems you're experiencing an issue where pressing Win+G doesn't open the Game mode menu. This might be related to a recent update, so double-checking the settings or restarting the application could help.

I handle WIN+G to navigate to the Game bar, where I can adjust the game mode settings.

Ensure the Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast feature is activated in Settings > Gaming > Game Bar. This will allow the Game Bar to function properly, and you can turn on Game Mode within the game.

Apologies for interrupting this discussion. This might assist those facing difficulties with game mode during the Fall Creator Update. If loading a game while gamemode is enabled leads to problems such as microstutter—no matter whether you use the gamebar toggle—you could also modify the registry setting for gamemode. Alternatively, if you find GameMode useful and wish to keep it active permanently, follow these steps. Please remember this requires administrator privileges, and based on what I understand, it should be applied across all gaming user accounts on your system. Warning: Editing the registry can risk destabilizing your operating system. Only make changes that match these instructions. Do not proceed if you're unsure about altering your registry.

Step 1. Launch the Windows Registry Editor (press Windows key and type "regedit", open it, confirm yes).
Step 2. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\GameBar
Step 3. Find the key named “AllowAutoGameMode”.
Step 4. If absent, create it using Step 4a.
Step 5. (Optional) In the right pane, click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it “AllowAutoGameMode”.
Step 6. To activate or deactivate Game Mode, double-click the entry and set its value to 1 (enabled) or 0 (disabled). Click OK and close the editor.

As someone who often struggles with GameMode, I play Skyrim (non-special edition) with a lightweight ENB profile. It usually starts with audio stuttering, especially noticeable in sound. The issue tends to worsen, sometimes requiring a restart. Continuing without changes leads to crashes or BSODs. My PC doesn’t experience thermal throttling, but turning off GameMode resolved all problems.

It seems there’s no clear explanation available, but for Game Mode to work, your game must be running in either Windowed or Borderless Window mode. This approach might limit performance since resources stay dedicated only to the game. In my view, it’s more practical to play in Fullscreen, where all resources are shared with the application.

If the game works, it can be displayed in full screen.
