You can adjust your system settings to prevent sleep during long rendering sessions. Instead of changing the sleep duration to "Never," try setting it to a shorter period, such as 1 minute or 30 seconds, which will stop the computer from sleeping automatically. This way, you won’t lose progress if your render takes longer than expected.

The system doesn’t need a fixed timer; idle components use minimal power. The best option is adjusting the energy settings manually. You might also create a PowerShell script for quick on/off control or a different one for custom schedules.

It might also work with an if statement to skip going back to the x time. Either way, 5 minutes is quite short and feels very annoying. Perhaps setting it to never would be better, or manually putting it to sleep could help. I don’t see another way to achieve this on a Mac since their behavior is similar.

You noticed the program stayed active longer than expected. Several applications designed to run for extended periods communicate with the system to avoid shutdown.

This suggestion works well! You could set it to automatically switch off at night, and then change it on demand.

Windows 10’s hibernation mode is quite forceful and resists changes. It can activate unexpectedly, even while you’re idle in a game. However, to keep it asleep you need it to react to the smallest events :p.

I just found another problem. Setting it to "Never" means the password login won't show up on the lock screen at all, which is a serious security risk in public areas. Can I prevent my computer from shutting down while still showing the password login after five minutes?

Render will keep running, but the PC requires the password for it to restart.
