Following a few hours of play, my Fortnite game suddenly becomes noticeably stuttery and lacks fluidity when running in full-screen mode. However, switching to windowed fullscreen immediately resolves the issue and restores smooth gameplay – a rather peculiar phenomenon. Initially, the game runs flawlessly at approximately 144 frames per second, but then abruptly degrades to a sluggish experience with similar FPS readings. Restarting my computer resets things, or switching to windowed fullscreen consistently provides a smooth solution, though reverting to full-screen quickly returns the choppy performance. I've attempted numerous troubleshooting steps – including overclocking components, reinstalling the game, updating all drivers – without success. My hardware is relatively new, with the exception of my GPU, which was verified to be in excellent condition prior to purchase. My system specifications are as follows: CPU - Ryzen 3 2200g, GPU – MSI RX 570, 8GB DDR4 RAM, ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard, a 600W power supply, a 240GB SSD and a 500GB hard drive. I’m considering the possibility of temperature-related problems, but it doesn't align with the immediate improvement observed when switching to windowed fullscreen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am at a complete loss for solutions.

Are you experiencing multiple processes operating silently? Your computer has a feature – the location of which is difficult to recall – that prevents background applications from executing during full-screen use. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, launch Task Manager when the problem begins to check for any resource-intensive processes consuming excessive CPU power. This could be a contributing factor as well.

Have you examined the running processes on your computer? It’s possible that some programs are consuming a significant amount of system resources, causing your system to freeze and become unstable after playing Fortnite for a short time. Try disabling or removing unfamiliar applications.
