I'm looking at the differences between X570 and B550 processors. The B550 is generally more budget-friendly, while the X570 offers better performance. It depends on what you prioritize—cost versus speed.

The key distinction lies in how X570 handles wired lanes—supporting Gen 4 with the chipset and CPU when using a Zen 2, while B550 offers Gen 4 lanes for the CPU but Gen 3 for the chipset. B550 remains viable if extra Gen 4 lanes aren't required. Consider your budget, location, and currency when deciding. The XT configuration doesn’t justify the cost, making the 3900X a more affordable alternative unless it matches your price point.

The price here is quite comparable, so I might go with the XT. My budget falls roughly between 180 to 250-80 USD, using USD as the currency. I’d really like to keep costs down if performance isn’t affected, since I’m saving for a 3080. I’m considering the Rog Strix B550-F and X570 Aorus Elite, but I’d prefer to save on the GPU unless it impacts performance.

Both B550 and x570 models feature a PCI-E X16 port where you typically place a graphics card, and the first M.2 connector supports PCI-E 4.0. The variation lies in the additional eight PCI-E lanes created by the chipset, usually directed to the bottom PCI-E X16 slot (only four electrically) and the second M.2 connector. On the B550 chipset, these eight lanes correspond to PCI-E 3.0, whereas the x570 uses PCI-E 4.0 lanes. The B550 does not require a chipset fan, while the x570 includes a chipset fan that functions effectively only when PCI-E 4.0 devices are connected to its lanes.

For the board? Yes, if you're considering... The details show various options. Spoiler: PCPartPicker lists several parts with prices. MSI B550-A ATX AM4 is $139.99, Amazon has it at $179.99, Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO is $169.99, Asus ROG STRIX B550-F is $189.49, and the X570 Tomahawk is around $164.99. Total costs include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts.

The B550-F gaming model offers solid performance. With one graphics card and an NVMe SSD connected via PCIe 4.0, you can achieve high speeds. It’s a great option if you’re looking to optimize performance without needing multiple cards.

Yes, if they're Gen 4 devices, using the first M.2 slot and the first x16 slot (connected to the CPU), it should run at Gen 4.

This information highlights inconsistencies in connector standards across different models. The second m.2 connector on the "gaming edge" board uses PCIe 3.0, whereas the "tomahawk" model features PCIe 4.0. The reason behind these variations isn't clear from the links provided.

Uncertain about the rating as PCI-E 3.0 only. Could be related to the ASM1061 SATA controller. The chipset supports PCI-E 4.0 with eight lanes... perhaps a manufacturer added a switch or multiplexer limited to 3.0, or some onboard component was intentionally restricted... it's not the chipset's responsibility.
