Did you unintentionally increase your GPU's speed beyond its limits?
Hello there,
I was thinking about increasing my GPU's speed to r9 280x after seeing a result from fire strike 3Dmark.
I followed some instructions and downloaded msi afterburner, adjusting the settings step by step without changing anything that would affect performance. I modified the program interface and extra options, but kept the core clock at 1080 MHz when I opened msi afterburner.
Later, a new 3Dmark test showed my GPU running at 1080 MHz instead of the expected 850 MHz. The memory speed stayed the same at 1550 MHz.
I noticed my PC froze earlier, but it doesn’t seem connected to the issue since I was idle when it happened.
I’m getting more frames per second now, but I’m not sure if this is safe. My goal is to get advice on what to do or understand what just happened. I’ve never overclocked before, so I stopped using msi afterburner after learning about the need to flash the BIOS.
Thanks for all your help ahead!
Just an update on my situation. I did a windows restore to a time before I installed msi afterburner and the gpu is still clocked at 1080mhz. I'm not really sure why.
Hello! I don't have a specific model to confirm, but I can help you identify it if you provide more details about its features or appearance.
