While wiping down the back of my computer, I came close to the CPU backplate with my winter hat (acrylic fiber, I was wearing it). Could static have caused any harm? I’m certain I didn’t touch the motherboard, but was just within about 7 cm.

Did you hear any clear spark or buzz? Were there any signs of marks or discoloration? Stay cautious until you observe an issue during use, and watch more closely then.

No signs of harm were seen and no sounds were detected. The device appears to function smoothly even during high demand.

Unlikely scenario. Contemporary parts generally resist ESD well. I’ve safely discharged across several motherboards and GPUs without any problems. As long as you didn’t physically contact the board, everything is fine. To prevent issues, simply avoid touching the case or housing of the power supply unit.
