Did you receive this PC as a gift and does it appear stable?
Hi guys!
I received this PC as a gift—it's an ASUS ROG Strix G16CHR Gaming Desktop. It has an Intel Core i7-14700F at 2.1GHz, 16GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of VRAM. It runs Windows 11 Home and comes with a 550 watt power supply. I'm not sure about the exact make, but it looks like a solid medium to high performance machine.
Thanks!
Certainly in the upper range...stronger than most available.
Of course, it might be in poor condition due to abuse...we don't know if it has been ridden hard.
Or is it brand new and unused?
"Solid according to what I read"?............what information did you find about the power supply? Power supplies on pre-built PCs are often the weak link.
Do you have any knowledge about the CPU cooler?
16 GB RAM is somewhat uncommon. Most people see 32 GB, but I wouldn't consider 16 insufficient for most purposes.
What are your intended tasks? What do you plan to use it for?
It is completely new. I understand the importance of power supplies. I’m trying to identify what it is. 500w seems reasonable on the lower side. My old Alienware from years ago was around 1200w. ... basic website upkeep, email, and mostly gaming like Battlefield 6, Doom Dark Ages... general use with gaming during weekend breaks since I work irregular hours in a gym. Weekends are downtime.
I’ll also check the CPU cooler next.
It's a fairly low-powered GPU, about 120 watts. I think a decent 550 watt power supply would suffice... though it's hard to say for sure what you actually have.
The cooler is probably on the lower end, but it should still work. I'd be a bit worried if it were a liquid cooler.
Have you been running it for a while with heavy tasks or games?
Consider installing HWInfo64 to monitor temperatures, power consumption, CPU usage, fan speeds, and more.
the power supply is an asus proprietary supply, specifically the asus strik power supply, because it's a "rog" republic of gamers system and the cpu indeed has a cooling system. When playing battlfield 6 in maximum detail, i sometimes see around 70 fps, but occasionally reach about 80 fps on this samsung 51 inch monitor. Yes, i've been gaming on it at max detail at 1080p resolution. I haven't bought a pc since my alienware experience back in 2007—long time ago, at least. It's a great option for any game today at the highest resolution!
Yes, 14700F remains a premium CPU option. The idea of getting value is always subjective. I don’t have insight into your budget or how much you’re frustrated with your current setup.
You might not care if you’re losing money on upgrades.
Perhaps you’re not concerned about spending extra to boost performance.
I usually stick with hardware until it breaks, and I’m not sure about that.
I don’t know anything about gaming.
I struggle to keep up with technology, but I thought this system is really good for gaming and internet use. Thanks!
