I chose DDR5 5600MHz CL46 for its speed and lower cost. For gaming and light editing, it performs well compared to DDR4 3200MHz CL18. The higher CAS latency in DDR5 isn't a big issue here. It's a good pick if you prioritize performance over latency.

Which board are you using? Since an DDR5 setup would be significantly slower than DDR4, please bring it and consider a 6000MHz CL30 or similar model.

I've never encountered such high latency with DDR5. DDR4 would perform better here. I also wish you had a DDR5 motherboard.

The motherboard is from a specific brand and model, but the exact details weren't provided in the query. Please share the full information for accurate identification.

It's not that important overall. A high CAS alone holds little value without understanding the timing settings. You tend to perform better with DDR5, though it might match DDR5 in performance at worst. Still, DDR5 offers greater bandwidth.

Asus Prime B760M-K it's true, the 6000MHz CL30 isn't something everyone can handle.

RAM speed plays a bigger role than CAS latency in performance.

Looking at the Asus Prime B760M-K, I'm still deciding whether to purchase it.

They cost the same, and I chose the DDR5 version to allow upgrades later without affecting MOBO. Did you think that was a good decision?

@flick9000 High CAS latency is definitely an issue. However, memory bandwidth and speed are equally crucial factors. Comparing DDR5 to DDR4 for the first time seems unusual. Even when DDR4 was released, it had greater CAS latency than DDR3, and at that point DDR3 was actually faster than DDR4. Over time, DDR4 improved significantly and became much more efficient. Today, DDR5 offers higher bandwidth and speed, though it may have slightly higher latency. Real-world tests show that in latency-sensitive games like CSGO, a powerful Intel CPU with DDR4 often performs better than the same CPU using DDR5. In more demanding scenarios or heavier workloads, DDR5 consistently leads.
