I'm sure it's my fault because I didn't get the notice. I don't have social media accounts. At one point, when I wanted to know which software version was running, I would look at the top of the window and go to the far left side. There is a menu item called "Help". Under that, there was an "About" option. That would tell me what revision of the program it was.

Now I am wondering which version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint I have... It's gone! Help takes me to some internet place. I can't find the "About" function anymore. The help responds like about has no history. The program now doesn't know what I'm talking about. Where do I find this in PowerPoint, Word, or Excel? Note that these are installed versions, not subscription products. Michael

You can check your account settings right here on this page. If you keep scrolling down, you'll find the app's version number and when the next update comes out.

That information is already in your account settings, just keep scrolling down to find it. You'll see the build number here too, and it tells you when new updates come out.

Thanks. I'm going to focus more carefully today. Back when computers were new, there was a popular book released by Microsoft in the late 1980s. It said that having a consistent screen layout is better than constantly changing it over time.

For over a decade now, Microsoft has been constantly changing menus, colors, and fonts just to look new. This means things are often harder to find and might actually get worse for users. I haven't noticed much better in hardware or software usability since the early days. Even though speeds have gotten faster recently, everything else like build quality, how easy it is to use, and how features work has either got worse or stayed pretty much the same.
