Hi everyone, I set up Windows 7 64-bit on a 5-6 year old computer without checking the hardware details. It initially worked perfectly for about two months. Then the user began experiencing issues with the PC failing to power on and took it to a repair shop. They claimed the motherboard was damaged because the system ran a 64-bit OS on a 32-bit board, which simply couldn't handle it. I was surprised since I always believed CPU issues were more likely than hardware problems. I don’t have the CPU model or type, but if it’s a 64-bit processor—probably an Intel dual-core—then compatibility with a 32-bit board should be fine. It seems like the repair shop might have misunderstood the situation. I’m concerned about how such a service operates and feel a bit embarrassed because my friend might think I caused the problem.

Only feasible if a 64-bit version was available, otherwise it wasn't supported

And the motherboard doesn't mind whether it's a 64-bit version of Windows.

It didnt fry because of a 64bit OS. Most older laptops will run 64bit its just not really any benefit because they have like 2-4GB of RAM.

It looks like you're suggesting avoiding that business altogether.

These places target those who lack understanding. They treat the uninformed poorly.
