Hey everyone - maybe I have an ID 10 T error, but I'm trying to figure out what kind of patch panel this is. It looks like the other half with the row of female RJ45 connectors is missing. Does anyone know what this thing is? Do I need to cut this thing out entirely and put in a "regular" patch panel from scratch? https://drive.google.com/file/d/195Mxy0N...sp=sharing

Other folks around here might say something extra, but it's basically just old-school phone wires. Nothing that actually works with Ethernet.

Ohhhh that sounds cool! Because the labels on those wall ports say "Cat5e." But if they are all Cat5e, why am I confused? This picture shows one panel. It has a coax cable and blue wires too, plus white ones. The white cables go everywhere else in my house, and those spots also have Cat5e markings on the jacks...

It's set up for phones, though it isn't ready for a regular Ethernet cable.

The entire house needs a complete rewire, not just an ethernet switch because that won't work for the job.

Here are two more labels from the diagram that can be useful. They help keep things in order. You might check them on Google Images.

I think the white part might actually be a network cable. The blue one is real, right? I tested it with an ethernet tester and set up a router, so yes, it's working perfectly. I'm ready to cut out one of the white wires from the terminal block, plug in that end, and test again to make sure everything still works.

That is an interesting patch panel or splice block. It looks like its only job is to connect the wire at the bottom that was punched down to the connector right above it. If all four pairs of wires were actually plugged into the lower jack, you could probably just take out that connecting wire and punch one end on a standard ethernet cable while using an RJ45 plug for the other side. If the wall outlet is really meant for an RJ45 pattern, it should work fine. My guess is they wired the outlet 568a because of the blue and orange wires used in a phone jack. In the long run, I would just replace it with a regular RJ45 patch panel, but you could also remove all those wires and crimp new RJ45 plugs yourself if you want to do that instead. It costs more to use a patch panel, but you never have to touch it again where an RJ45 plug might get damaged.

Thanks Bill for the extra help; if I don't need to cut out walls, I'm very happy with most situations and it looks like nice camping conditions!
