Did you damage the mainboard of your computer?
I moved my PC to a new case because the old one was being replaced. It was placed in a lower-grade case for backup purposes. Initially, parts booted, but now they don’t. I experience a brief cycle of attempts to power on, followed by a pause and another try. There’s no display, and the speaker for the POST beep is absent, though I have some in order. Recent changes include the case and CPU cooler, plus several hard drives being lost. The issue lies with the cooler—switching from an aging AIO to a Hyper 212X. During installation, I over-tightened the cooler onto the socket, missing some spacers on the standoffs, which caused it to sit too low for the screws. I corrected it, but worry the damage is permanent. Testing with a working PSU and without the GPU and SSD, using different RAM setups, I’m still seeing fan-spin followed by a stop. Is there anything else I can try to identify the problem? Since I don’t have a CPU or motherboard, swapping parts isn’t possible. I’ve excluded the PSU and GPU. Components in use: Intel 7700K, cooler, Hyper 212X board, Gigabyte Z170 GPU, Nvidia GTX 1080, Seasonic Evo II PSU.
Tried the suggestion to begin without the cooler and it worked fine. It didn’t feel risky—it’s something I’ve done before and overlooked this time. Also repositioned the CPU once more, moved the RAM sticks again. Any further suggestions?
