Updating the BIOS is simple and can be done by yourself. You risk damaging your board with a faulty update only if you encounter frequent blackouts during the process. If you're prone to blackouts without a UPS, consider having a technician handle it at a PC store. Still, BIOS flashback occasionally helps repair corrupt updates, giving you a chance to fix things.

The packaging will indicate compatibility with the latest generation, you'll know once you receive it. Just drop it in and mention it doesn't fit your latest CPU model.

The only method to lock the system if power fails is to avoid doing it during a severe storm.
