Hello! I'm just starting out with overclocking. I've only ever done a small amount of GPU tuning before and then returned to the standard settings. Recently, I tried to boost my CPU's speed. Unfortunately, my system didn't start properly—though it powers on fine. Here’s what I have set up: Windows 10 & EndeavourOS MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX, latest BIOS, AMD Ryzen 3600 processor, Noctua NH-U12S 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (with XMP 3600 MHz), a 1TB PNY SSD from Corsair RM750 powered by a 750W PSU. I followed both guides at once, switching between them as instructed. I ran a full memory check and everything seemed normal. Initially, I used the auto OC feature on the motherboard, then manually adjusted it to 4.4GHz after skipping some checks. After that, I did a Prime95 test, but the temps spiked to 100-110°C, which was concerning. I let it run for about 30 seconds before stopping it completely. After restarting, I lowered the frequency back to 4.2 and tried another Prime95 run, which stopped immediately due to overheating. A 3DMark CPU-only test also failed to finish properly. At this point, I’m worried my CPU might be damaged. Do you think I should give up or keep trying? Also, I only have a spare PSU (Seasonic S12...) for troubleshooting. What are your thoughts? Could it be that I damaged it? Thanks!

Disconnect the CMOS, then it should work again. Unplug the device. Locate the CMOS battery. Take it out and let it sit for a while. Reinsert it and restart the system.

On page 11 locate JBAT1 on your motherboard. Then proceed to page 21 and unplug the CMOS jumper. Alternatively, you might consider removing the battery as suggested by @Hairless Monkey Boy for a simpler approach.

Shorting the pins works much quicker than taking out the battery and waiting.

Thanks for your messages! I chose to remove the battery since I’m unsure how to short the pins. I also don’t recognize a jumper cap—I only have time for the final episode of TechNews right now. I’ll reattach the battery later.

Gently contact the two pins, labeled in the guide, together with a metal object such as a screwdriver. Wait a moment and the task is complete. Additionally, there is no risk of electric shock involved.
