Hello! Recently, I've bought a new SSD to use for my operating system, as my old SSD health started failing and Hard Disk Sentinel stated that it didn't have a long time left in it's estimated lifespan.
Now, I decided I would migrate my Windows 10 to the new SSD instead of doing a fresh install to avoid the hassle that would come with it. I used Macrium Reflect for the process, and at first glance, everything seemed to work fine until I took out my old SSD so that I could use it for an older laptop I have. After removing it, whenever I'd boot the PC from the new SSD, I'd get the
Windows recovery screen,
and there would be no way to boot into Windows from it.
I did some research, and I saw some people online who recommended using a program called EasyUEFI to fix this issue. I did just that and used EasyUEFI to rebuild the UEFI partition on the new SSD. It ended up working, and Windows booted from the new SSD just fine without going to the recovery screen. I naively thought that would be the end of my issues.
From this point onward, while Windows worked normally, most apps, programs, and games I had started crashing frequently; some games would even crash while launching. The games would typically just hard shutdown without freezing or giving me any error, kind of similar to what happens to an app once you use end task on it in Task Manager. Google Chrome would also regularly crash, but in an interesting way, Instead of the app freezing or closing, I would get
"There's not enough memory to open this page,"
and any other tabs I had open wouldn't load until I restarted Google Chrome.
In response to this, I decided to upgrade to Windows 11 from 10, I successfully installed Windows 11, but the problem persisted. Keep in mind, though, that in the installation options, I chose the option that let me keep my files and apps.
Some things I tried to do:
- Update my drivers and made sure I had latest Bios version
- Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic tool (no errors found)
- Checked the SSD health in the Kingston Software (Perfect Health)
- Ran chkdsk on my C drive (no issues here either)
- Reinstalled my ram sticks
- Changed the port I was using for my OS SSD
A dumb thing I did was formatting my older dying SSD. Because I thought Windows was fixed after I used EasyUEFI. I'd formatted it so that I could use it on my older laptop. So I can't use it to test anymore.
This problem is driving me crazy and I'm really hoping someone can help me out. Thanks in advance!

there is a particular app or game that appears to cause this most often; consider a fresh reinstall of this software. if the problem resolves with that specific program, it likely stems from an imperfect cloning process. in such instances, you should reinstall everything.

You don't have a page file configured.
This may lead to virtual memory issues.
Your secondary storage is nearly full.
Make a pagefile on drive C: .
Choose custom size
1GB starting, up to 16GB maximum.
By the way, who advised you to disable the paging file? That was completely unreasonable.

Hey! I've been using the PC for a few hours now and haven't seen any crashes with the apps I've tried. It seems like the issue might be resolved!
I really appreciate your advice, but I'm still confused about why pagefiles stopped working. Could it be connected to Macrium Reflect cloning? I'm not sure.
Thanks again for your support!
