i tried to push my 6600k to higher speeds today and before sharing the updates, let me show you what my setup looks like.
cpu: 6600k @3.5
cooler: H60 AIO
gpu: xfx gtr rx480 black edition @ stock speed
ram: g.skill 16 gb ddr4 at 2400
power supply: rosewill arc 650w
case: carbide spec m2
motherboard: Gigabyte z170 mx gaming 5
storage: 1 TB wd blue
ok, initially i set it to 4.5v but got an error saying my system had a problem. then i tried 1.5v, then 1.3v and finally 1.35v—nothing worked. the preset overclock didn’t help either, and even that prevented me from reaching the login screen.
🙁
also worth noting, this cpu is a direct rma from intel since my previous one failed, so maybe they only offered the worst 6600k available? it’s really frustrating, fck!

■ Disconnect power cord, remove motherboard battery, press and hold case's power button for 5 seconds to erase fail CMOS data, pause 15 minutes, then press and hold case's power button for 5 seconds, wait another 15 minutes.
■ Reconnect battery, power on, enter BIOS, adjust time and date, save changes and exit, attempt to play the game, if freezing persists.
■ Utilize self-test tool (available with PSU), read each connector output as instructed. If all appear correct, check for motherboard component issues, software conflicts (A), or another faulty part (I).
a
■ Possibly a defective cable; consider purchasing a new one. If replacement doesn't resolve the issue,
b
■ Reach out to the re-seller or vendor regarding warranty support.

■ Disconnect the power cord, remove the motherboard battery, then press and hold the case’s power button for 5 seconds to erase the failure CMOS information. Wait 15 minutes, after which press and hold the case’s power button again for 5 seconds, wait another 15 minutes.
■ Reconnect the battery, power on the system, enter BIOS settings, adjust time and date, save changes, exit, attempt to play the game. If freezing persists.
■ Utilize a self-test tool (available with PSU) to read each connector output (A). If all indicators are correct, check for faults in motherboard parts, software conflicts (A), or other potential issues (I).
■ Inspect your motherboard closely for anomalies such as a weak surface, scratched copper traces, bent CPU socket pins, etc. Did you notice when the freeze occurs? Was it from the beginning or developed later?
■ Open Windows and avoid running any applications or updates. Use a driver removal tool to fully clear all graphics card drivers. This will restart Windows, which will reinstall the built-in driver library. If the game runs with this driver, remove Windows VGA driver and install the original one. If the problem continues, it suggests a driver conflict rather than a graphics card issue.

■ Inspect the motherboard closely for anomalies such as a weak surface, scratched copper traces, bent CPU socket pins, etc. Note when freezing occurs—was it from the start or developed later?
■ Open Windows without running any applications or updates. Use a driver removal tool to fully clear all graphics card drivers. This will restart Windows, which will reinstall the built-in driver library. If the game runs smoothly, uninstall the Windows VGA driver and install the original one. If freezing continues, it indicates a driver conflict problem.
