Due to my PC configuration, it shuts down and restarts into another OS, which is the easiest approach right now. For the future, I plan to completely turn off internet access on the W10 drive.
I've encountered problems with formatting a shared drive that supported W10 and Ubuntu. A Samsung NTFS USB drive has performed adequately, although not flawlessly. The most reliable option has been a compact 2GB stick using Fat32. This method consistently delivers the best results.
Another consideration. If you ever choose to install Windows 11 Professional, you might build a VM image from your Windows 10 storage and deploy it using Hyper-V or VirtualBox. This would let you run your previous software without needing the original installation files or passwords.

I currently run Windows XP, Windows 7, and Hyper-V VMs within Windows 10 Pro. If needed, you can block internet access inside the VM.
For those comfortable with Linux, that approach is clearly simpler.
My sole dual-boot drive resides on a 2009 vintage netbook running Windows XP and Windows 7 on a single disk. I store all other OSes in separate SSD-based multi-boot systems.
