Hi there, newcomer.
I assembled my first PC and everything functioned perfectly for more than a year. Last week it shut down abruptly and won’t power on again.
During checks, I found it works if I detach the PSU from the graphics card—lights come on and fans spin—but when I reconnect it fully, it stops completely, not even showing any indicator light.
According to calculations, the PSU has more than enough capacity for the entire system (SeaSonic PRIME Platinum 1200 W, 80+ Platinum certified, fully modular ATX), with a power rating around 539W.
The graphics card is a Gigabyte GAMING OC GeForce RTX 3090. I purchased it used on eBay and it performed well even under heavy load (I’m doing machine learning tasks). It was connected via one cable to the PSU, which I now see as not advisable.

Did I damage it? What should I try?
Is a replacement GPU necessary? Searching online for my issue gives no results (maybe skill gap).

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
The RTX 3000 series was notorious for having high transient load spikes, it's why users were advised to over provision on their PSU's besides looking at a reliably built unit, users had to look into a 1.2KW~1.5KW unit if you were looking at an RTX3090;

What can I do to troubleshoot/fix this? Do I need to buy a new GPU?
Pass on images of the daisychain you'd used + images of the card. If the card is beyond it's warranty period, you might want to inspect the card for anything melted and/or if you can smell something burnt.

However, now that you mentioned it, I recall the PC shutting down randomly—possibly because I changed the “hybrid mode” setting on the PSU, which resolved the issue (though I’m not sure which was the correct setting). When the PC starts without the GPU, it's likely the card is faulty. Check the PCIe cables separately, but if the issue persists, the 3090 may be damaged and require replacement.
