Did I brick my mobo?
I was moving my NAS to a new enclosure to expand storage. Previously, I used a Jonsbo N2 and switched to a Jonsbo N3. After reassembly, pressing the power button yields no response—no lights on the motherboard. I reconnected all PSU cables, ran the included tester (it briefly spun the fan), unplugged everything except the PSU connection, tried a single RAM stick, removed the CMOS battery, but nothing changed. The motherboard is an ASRock Z690m and the PSU is an EVGA 550gm. Any suggestions?
Uncertain whether you damaged your motherboard without more testing, but... attempt to build your whole system on a non-conductive surface (such as cardboard) outside the case. This will assist in eliminating a potential short between the case and your parts. If it functions outside the case, focus closely on precision when putting everything back inside. If it fails outside, systematically replace components one at a time. It might be the motherboard, it could be the PSU, or something else entirely.
Ensure all front-panel cables are connected to the proper headers. Verify there are no misalignments between the mainboard and chassis.
No visible signs of activity detected. Fans and LEDs appear inactive.
I removed the motherboard and power supply unit from the case to test independently. Initially, it didn’t appear the motherboard had any LEDs. Once I connected the front panel header, it powered up successfully. As I reassembled everything carefully, I discovered the issue was linked to the molar cable connecting the PSU to the jonsbo board. When properly connected, the PSU shut down immediately. It turns out I was using a cable from another PSU brand, which had different pin configurations. Swapping that cable resolved the problem.
Oh yeah that's a dangerous game where explosions or fires can be involved, always use cables that come with PSU
