I lost an ASUS Z97 board. Recently, I took out one of the back plates near the bottom of my case by accident. I forgot about a USB device that was connected and sending power to it when I slipped. The plate touched the motherboard on the bottom left corner. That's why my built-in speakers are not working right now. If I turn them on, there is some strange noise coming out instead of sound. I have an external PCIe sound card that works fine. Would it be better if I could fix this? Is it too late to save this motherboard?

Most things get better when you know how to fix them and have the right tools. Maybe some electronics in there got broken, but why did you turn the power back on? That sounds dangerous.

It turned off. But since I forgot the USB sticks were sticking in there, they just kept working until the power ran out.

So if you have a mechanical issue, do some checking because simply touching something won't hurt your electricity.
