We got a big power spike yesterday. My PC was plugged into the wall with an ethernet wire, so when power came back on, that port stopped working. I checked my router and saw it still had Wi-Fi. If I just plugged the ethernet cable into the router itself instead of directly to the wall, it worked again. I tried other ports in different rooms but they didn't work either. Even after buying a new ethernet cable to test it, nothing fixed it. I looked online for anyone who had the same issue but couldn't find a fix. Any tips or advice would be super helpful.

Anything can happen! When running cables inside walls, the best thing is to use a cheap little tool called a cable tester at Amazon (link provided). This simple device lets you check if your wire goes where you think it does, and makes sure all 8 wires are connected properly.

Something feels wrong. You plug an ethernet cable from your router into a wall [one port] and the cable sends data out to many devices in other rooms, but none of them work. This sounds like you might have a switch somewhere else that needs checking, or maybe a smart panel trip is causing power issues so everything is off?
