Diagnosing an issue with a CPU removed from its socket!
Upgraded from Ryzen 5 1400 to 2600x with stock coolers. Thermal paste was extremely strong, forcing the CPU out of its socket. Checked pins and MMO, found everything intact. New components power on but I still see a black screen—no BIOS access. Even after swapping back the old CPU, the issue persists. MOBO looks fine. Anyone know what’s causing this? Thanks!
Did you verify your B350 motherboard had the newest BIOS? You might need to replace the old CPU quickly so you can update your motherboard's BIOS to support second-generation Ryzen CPUs. Note that I noticed you attempted to install the old CPU, but it didn't work.
Examine the CPU and socket closely for any bent or missing copper. Look up images online to understand the correct appearance. It could be that when you close the arm, the contacts don’t make full contact. Also verify there’s nothing else or dirt in the socket and that the CPU itself is relatively clean.
Check gently for debris without touching pins or holes. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove any particles safely.
Use a dry cloth or paper towel; if you apply it, make sure to blow out the excess afterward. If it doesn<|pad|>, it shouldn't affect much.
It's feasible to use an AMD CPU with PGA sockets. The locking mechanism isn't designed to safeguard the CPU, only to ensure a minimal connection with the pins. Unlike Intel's approach that secures the CPU firmly, you can't force it out easily. As long as you avoid damaging any pins, the motherboard should function properly. Remove the component carefully and avoid inserting it into the pin holes. Use alcohol to gently remove any residue. Check the pin holes; if a piece is present, cleaning will be more challenging.
