I installed my first TrueNAS system for a couple of months and recently observed that one drive showed a SMART failure, causing the pool to appear degraded. I decided to isolate the faulty drive and replace it, assuming since I was using RAIDZ1 with four drives everything should still function properly. After shutting down the system, I removed the drives, found the failing one, reinstalled the rest, and noticed two drives weren’t recognized by TrueNAS or the dock. When I checked the BIOS, they were also invisible. I attempted to connect them via USB SATA dock, but they remained undetected. I also tried connecting them to another PC without success. My setup includes an i5-4440 processor, a 500 GB SATA SSD as boot drive, four 8TB Seagate Ironwolf drives (three from Amazon Prime Day and one from Memory Express), and a 2.5 GB network card. Both the defective and working drives are still visible on my NAS and dock. I explored covering the power pins of the non-working drives and even used a Molex adapter after researching a potential Western Digital issue on forums. There might be another way to recover data from the remaining drives.
