I'm handling this build together with a friend and everything is complete. We're installing Windows now and it starts up correctly, but then during the first restart we run into a problem. I think it might be connected to some BIOS configuration. The system boots normally, then during the installation it seems to fail to power on the monitor and keyboard, appearing to hang mid-install. Once it powers back up, everything works again. I tried using the restart button on the PC, which warns of a shutdown and forces it into safe mode. In safe mode it still shows video and keyboard control, but if I power it on directly it restarts repeatedly before failing to load properly. The build was for an Asus Z790 with an Intel 13700K processor, NVIDIA 4080 graphics, and I don’t remember the exact RAM configuration. I checked manufacturer guidelines and everything looked fine. I also set Secure Boot to Windows UEFI and configured XMP profiles beforehand, but I’m not sure if those settings are correct for this setup. I suspect a BIOS issue might be at play, especially since similar problems have occurred on other systems with Intel CPUs. This is quite confusing, and I’m not an expert in BIOS tweaks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven’t managed to resolve this situation. I often chose the “get it working then update” approach, assuming everything would function correctly out of the box, especially with Windows 11 not receiving updates. That’s definitely something I should include in my troubleshooting notes. Right now I don’t have access to the machine, and I only had roughly 30 minutes to work on it today, so I gathered some possible fixes while I was there. Besides what others mentioned clearly, I’m wondering if there are additional steps I might be missing. I think I might be linking two different problems together for my AMD build—maybe a security setting change is related to the issue I’m seeing.

I'm not very familiar with AMD's quirks.

This appears to be an Intel configuration but I recall a similar problem on an AMD system involving a hidden BIOS setting. I plan to check the BIOS on another machine tonight. If anyone else has suggestions or alternatives, I’m open to reviewing them. It’s odd how it reacts—restarting inside the OS affects hardware startup without triggering a full shutdown. This hints at a security-related issue, though it might be managed through a BIOS update.

Also verify that your BIOS is configured for UEFI mode and that you install there. The most recent BIOS updates for all compatible MOSI chips usually set UEFI as the standard, and attempting to boot from an installation made in Classic mode will fail.

I’m sure it’s running in UEFI mode. It stays in UEFI, and I also have Windows UEFI secure boot enabled in the default settings. I remember that setup from my previous Intel-Asus build with 11 configuration, which was about a year ago, but I don’t recall the exact steps I used then.
