Hey there! I'm facing some trouble with my Corsair Dominator RGB kit (CMT16GX4M2C3200C16). It isn't running at the expected frequency and timing. Previously, a G.Skill 16 GB kit worked perfectly when I enabled XMP on my X470 Aorus Gaming board with a Ryzen 2700X. Now, the RAM in CPU Z shows up as 2133 instead of 3200, and the timings are 15-15-15-36 rather than 16-18-18-36. I didn’t verify if these sticks were compatible with Corsair’s list, but since they’re marketed for Ryzen, I assumed a BIOS update was needed. Unfortunately, neither XMP nor EZ OC profiles helped bring the RAM up to speed. The system would repeatedly power on and off before finally starting without the settings. In the BIOS it still claims the right settings are applied, but when I save and exit, it keeps looping. I tried overclocking manually using DRAM Calculator, sticking to safe values to protect my investment. That only caused another issue: I can’t adjust the SOC voltage in the BIOS—Gigabyte seems to have reserved that for more expensive models, with the default set to "auto." I can tweak DRAM and cLDO voltages freely, but not SOC. Eventually, I had to reset CMOS because it froze. I even attempted to configure it via Ryzen Master, but it didn’t work either. Interestingly, the BIOS does let you change SOC voltage, though I’m unsure if it impacts performance. So, did I make a mistake by skipping compatibility checks and settling for slower RAM, or is there another way I can try?

adjusted RAM placement to slots 2 and 4, turned on XMP profile, set DRAM voltage manually to 1.35. if issues persist, raise voltage gradually up to 1.36, 1.37, etc., up to a maximum of 1.45V. if it doesn’t function, the motherboard likely rejects it. It should work at 2933 with tighter timings, though you might be using a 3200 MHz kit to run it at full speed.

It should work at 2933 with tighter timings, though you might be using a 3200 MHz kit to run it at full speed.

Multiple factors were involved, mainly due to my dislike of the G.Skill RGB package and the fact that I already own Corsair components. A friend purchased the previous RAM for the same price, making it a reasonable exchange. Indeed, I’ve completed all these steps before. This isn’t my first attempt, not even close, and I genuinely thought I was familiar with the process. Except for voltage adjustments, none of the modifications take effect. It consistently leads to a restart loop and the BIOS resetting settings. And honestly, how could they be preventing SOC voltage? That’s never happened before. I experimented with a “soft” overclock at 2400 but still got nothing. I suspect the motherboard itself might be the issue. The poor quality of the Gigabyte BIOS also contributes. Right now, I’m seriously thinking about replacing it with an ASUS board... Among all my builds, it’s always the Gigabyte ones that have these issues...
