I thought someone might be able to assist me. I purchased a 2020 MacBook Air Intel version back in 2020, and she used dual monitors for most of its use without any issues. Recently, she removed the monitors and moved it around; now when plugged back in one monitor works, but the other doesn’t connect at all. I tried connecting it to another monitor, updated the Mac OS, and even bought a new dongle from Apple, but only one gets detected and functions properly. Her specs are a 2020 base model Intel i3 with 1.1 GHz, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB storage—she mainly handles basic tasks like word documents, email, and Excel. It seems the problem might be more complex than expected.

Check if a single screen can be connected via either port on the MacBook. If it functions on one port but not the other, likely one port has damage.

i use apple's usb type-c digital av multiport adapter. i connect an hdmi cable to it, and it works with a single screen. then i use another usb c hdmi adapter plugged into the apple adapter's usb port. it functions fine for two years now. recently, neither adapter is working, so i tried switching both adapters and using different ports on the macbook air. only one monitor receives the signal directly from the digital av adapter, while the other works with the hdmi connection.
