Diablo III FPS has declined recently.
Hi, I see the issue is with FPS dropping to low numbers in Diablo III. It sounds like the problem might be related to graphics settings or hardware performance. Since your friend has a 970 and it works fine at 4K DSR, maybe the issue lies with his monitor, graphics card, or even software settings. Checking the game’s performance settings, updating drivers, or testing on another device could help identify the cause.
Check the details of your friends setup beyond the GTX 970. Does it support a single monitor or multiple? If you have both, ensure a second monitor is connected—both should run Speccy (with CPU tab) and GPU-Z (with Sensors tab). Observe the CPU usage, clock speeds, temperatures, and GPU memory activity. I suspect either the CPU or GPU is throttling, possibly due to Diablo III demanding high CPU power to maintain online connectivity.
The build includes an i5-4460 processor, 8GB of 1600 RAM (Kingston), a Gainward GTX 970 graphics card, an MSI Z97 PC Mate motherboard, a WD Black 1TB hard drive, and one 1080p monitor. He got away from nearly every component of the system.
I find myself eager to point out the issue because he saved a lot, but still, if you connect a secondary display—even an outdated CRT that requires a DVI-I to VGA converter—and run Speccy and GPU-Z on it while he plays Diablo III on the primary screen, I'd like to know what each program reports during the performance drops. Also, what operating system is he using? Windows 7, 8, or 8.1? In any case, opening Task Manager and selecting the Performance tab (whatever it is in this version) could provide useful insights, especially since he's playing fullscreen at 1080p. -.-; The previous note about audio channels might also offer some clarity.
Relies on connection quality as it frequently communicates with Blizz, and poor or laggy internet may feel like frame rate drops. I encounter them occasionally during intense gameplay (T6/Grift25+ DH) with [email protected]@2133-GTX970@1400-240GB Intel 530 Series. Suddenly there are numerous mobs visible, plus sentries and pets (4pc marauder). I rarely see them, but do so from time to time. I use DSR on @UHD level; internet performance is decent but not ideal. HC mode isn’t particularly attractive to me either.
His link isn't the problem; he's using a 40Mb line. I'm on a 4Mb setup and haven't run into any issues as @Technous285 mentioned, likely because they skipped some parts. His side is gone... And I haven't gotten any reply from my friend yet.
Just because it's a 40Mbit line doesn't guarantee stability. Even though it's not the fastest CPU, it still performs reasonably. Being a Blizzard title, everyone seems to be focused more on performance than raw power. It's strange that turning off AA made a difference, since that part doesn't significantly impact CPU usage. But this game is definitely from Blizzard—maybe they're prioritizing fun over speed?
