Diablo 4 Memory leak
Diablo 4 Memory leak
I have been testing early access and observed that after playing the game, HWINFO indicated I had reached 95% of virtual memory at one point. Checking the page file size showed it had expanded to 13500mb, while it usually stays around 4gb. My typical usage is about 40% virtual memory when not playing. I stopped playing now and here’s what I see. Windows can operate with low memory but still have free RAM available. The highest amount of RAM I accessed was 17gb, yet I used 90% of virtual memory. This suggests the game was demanding more than expected. It might be related to the GPU drivers, though this occurs on AMD and Nvidia systems, which could explain why it’s less common there. It seems the game is making its own decisions. It’s a visually appealing title... if you enjoy messy stuff. My advice is to restart every few hours, even though I only played briefly. Hopefully they will address this issue, as it has been reported in the game since March.
The content is directly from my initial game start and joining a clan, followed by logging out. After restarting, the PC refreshed its value, indicating limited activity today. It seems not fully broken since it clears memory after use. I believe it's not a driver because it only requests memory during operation, not at shutdown. If it were a driver, restarting would restore space. I’m familiar with identifying memory leaks in non-paged areas; it looks like the same issue might apply to paged files too. It appears to be Poolmon, likely triggered by installing the Windows SDK and using the associated tool. I found more details on how to use PoolMon for detecting kernel-mode memory leaks via pool tags. Learn.microsoft.com
I’m not very familiar with memory leaks, which is why I asked. I just think the game is working well... so I guess that’s it.
It only increased to 90 today, I played for a few hours.
I haven't experienced an out of memory error, but it's unusual for my PC to consume such much space.
I found its connection to high resolution textures and recommend playing at medium texture settings. I checked that, but it's difficult to see the difference when everything is covered in mud.
