Hey, suddenly my computer failed to power on today. I turned it off a few hours ago and now it won’t start at all. At first I thought the power supply unit was bad since it worked fine before. But when I removed the GPU, everything functioned properly (lights and fans came on without it). My concern is whether the GPU is completely non-functional or if the PSU is the issue—possibly lacking enough power to run it. Here’s what I have:

Specs: GTX 1080 M. Sphere Armor OC, motherboard M. G. B. 550 Tomahawk, CPU R5 5600X, RAM 2x16GB Crucial Ballistix (clock speed unknown), PSU: some Chieftech 600W (Poland standard), recently got a Chieftech GPPS-700A8 (700W).

Notes:
- All cables except the power cord were unplugged when it ran without the GPU.
- When I tried to power it on with the GPU inside, it only responded once. After a short wait, I plugged it back in and it worked again.
- The PSU arrived recently (pure power 11F 750W), but it still won’t start with the GPU.
- I also tried using a different PCIe slot without success.

In short, my guess is the GPU is dead. The PSU might be faulty or insufficient for the GPU load.

Check the GPU on a different machine and you should get confirmation. It may also suggest the power supply is failing, but it's hard to tell for sure.

The GPU might not be completely failed. It seems there could have been an issue with the PSU. Check if a power surge occurred. Was there a lightning strike nearby or on the ground? Or did it just shut down unexpectedly without any clear cause? Remove the GPU, install a new one, and observe the behavior.

Check if switching the power button on the back of the PSU gives the same outcome as disconnecting the wall cable and letting it sit for a while. This behavior usually indicates a PSU issue, such as protection mechanisms activating due to overvoltage or overcurrent. It might also point to a faulty GPU triggering the fault. You may need to test with another PSU or GPU to verify. Your initial thought seems reasonable—PSU failure is likely causing this.

You need to manually disconnect the power supply from the wall outlet to activate it.

Unfortunately, there isn't a modular setup available; only one GPU cable is provided.

I'm not entirely sure because I wasn't there when it happened. Power spikes can occur occasionally. Since I'm the only computer at home, I can't test another machine.

Thank you for the responses. I purchased a new power supply and expect delivery on Friday. I'll share an update once it's resolved.
