Your machine suddenly goes black with fans spinning at full power, happening unpredictably during tasks. Temperatures stay below 54°C on the CPU and under 60°C on the GPU. I've updated the BIOS to aid RAM support, performed a clean Windows reinstall, adjusted RAM speed from 6000 to factory settings, but the issue continues. My setup is an ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero (WiFi 6E) with LGA 1700 Intel Core i9-13900K, G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB series (Intel XMP) and 64GB RAM with a GTX 4090.
Have you tried the 4090 in this setup? I think it’s worth testing with an iGPU to confirm the issue. Changing the HDMI/DP cable or using another monitor could also help. Any factors we can rule out will bring us closer to identifying the problem. Are you seeing those persistent black screens that require a hard restart, or do you experience just a brief moment of darkness before everything resumes?
Which type of PSU are you employing? A voltage drop due to inadequate power can produce the outcome you’re experiencing.
The overheating issue doesn’t appear to be a problem, your BIOS is up-to-date. Your operating system seems clean, but have you run a malware scan? You might assume your SSD or HDD is functioning well, though old hard drives can sometimes cause similar problems. One option is to create a system restore point before making any changes. After that, open msconfig, go to System Configuration, and hide all MS services. Then disable everything else except the essential ones. Check the Startup folder and turn off automatic reboot; if the screen feels unstable, try using a GPU driver temporarily or install the NVIDIA drivers. Once the PC behaves normally, revisit the services and re-enable any items you previously disabled. A reboot may be necessary. You might also find unknown entries in the services—search them online for details.
I use a Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1350W ATX 3.0 motherboard. These screens are extremely demanding and often require a hard restart, but it doesn’t always resolve the issue. After a reboot into Windows, I sometimes see a black screen after roughly five minutes with no input. The motherboard also shows error codes regularly—51, 54, 43, and 70 are most frequent when the blackout happens. My M.2 drives are functioning properly; I’ve checked service and driver settings, and everything looks normal. I suspect the problem might be related to my DDR5 memory modules.
